The JABG National Plant Collection Certification System under the Auspices of Japan Association of Botanical Gardens identifies important domestic plant collections, accumulates and makes data on each collection available to the public, and monitors the preservation status of these collections over the long-term to ensure not only ex situ conservation of indigenous plants indispensable for conservation of biodiversity, but also preservation of genetic resources required for the advancement and cultural inheritance of horticulture. Efforts will also be made to preserve traditional horticultural techniques and aesthetic sense. Through our commitment to these activities, we aim to ensure that Japanese plant collections and the accompanying cultural value be handed down to the next generation.
